Characteristics of computer system

The computer has the following characteristics. 

1. Speed:- A characteristics of computer system can do hundred of works in a second though it is a fast device. Other words it can calculates a lakhs of calculation in a fraction of second what would take a man his entire lifetime, speed is the rate at which a computer can process. 

Note:- Computer speed is expressed in millions instructions per second (MIPS) or million floating point per second (MFLOPS) 

1/1000=1/10³second=10–³second=1 millisecond

We can also expressed the speed of computer in Hertz(He). 

1 Kilo Hertz(KHz)=1024Hz

1 Mega Hertz(MHz) =1024KHz

1 Giga Hertz (Ghz) =1024MHz

2. Accuracy :- A characteristics of computer system is very reliable and accurate. It normally doesn't make mistakes while performing calculation on data. It Performs every calculation with the same accuracy. 

3. Diligence :- When human being are required to work continuesly for a few hours, they become tired and start losing concentration, which results in loss of speed and accuracy. However a computer can continue to work for hours (or even daays) at the same speed and accuracy. 

4. Versatility :- characteristics of  computer system are very versatility. The same computer can be used for various applications. For instance, you can use a computer to preparing results of an examination, prepare the balance sheet of a company, send /receive fax massages/e-mails, play audio or video CDs etc. 

5. Large storage capacity/memory :- A computer can store huge amount of data both temporarily and permanently. That can be available when the user required. The basic unit of measurements for the storage capacity of a computer is byte. 

1 Kilo Byte ( KB) = 1024 Bytes

1 Mega Byte ( MB) = 1024 KB

1 Giga Byte ( GB) = 1024 MB

1 Tetra Byte ( TB) = 1024 GB

The main permanent storage is called Hard Disk. 

6. No feeling :- Computer have no feeling, because they are machines. 

7. Automation :-  

characteristics of computer system are automatic machines because once started on a job, they carry out the job (normally without any human assistance) unit it is finished.
